Một dải duyên hải miền Nam nước Pháp giáp ranh với biên giới Ý mang tên Côte d’Azur, vùng biển “Thiên thanh”, màu nước trong và xanh như ngọc, màu trời và màu biển cùng hoà thành một. Chạy dọc theo bờ biển, có cơ số những góc thiên đường địa giới mà giới Đại thượng lưu toàn cầu đã chọn làm những ốc đảo để nghỉ chân của mình. Cùng vùng đất này, trong tiếng Anh lại mang tên “French Riviera”, để chỉ nơi núi và biển như va vào nhau. Núi như lao thẳng ra biển. Từ Nice đến Monaco rồi đi tiếp đến biên giới, những con đường Corniches chạy dọc theo biển treo trên lưng chừng núi. Ngày trời không trong vắt, mây từ biển kéo đến treo lơ lửng trên đỉnh đèo.

Quảng trường hình bán nguyệt, tòa nhà bao quanh vốn là trung tâm tổ chức hội nghị được trang trí bởi một bức tường dài với 52 bức tranh ghép bằng gạch men màu azulejos truyền thống của văn hoá bán đảo Iberia, mỗi bức minh hoạ một tỉnh thành của Tây Ban Nha. Điểm độc đáo của lối kiến trúc và kỹ thuật xây dựng này là nó không hề sử dụng vữa để gắn kết. Có lẽ kỹ thuật này đã được người trong vùng sử dụng từ thời tiền sử. Những khối đá vôi trong vùng được đẽo gọt, rồi xếp bằng vào nhau. Nhà thường hình tròn với mái đá dẹt hình nón.
 Tục truyền rằng. Sự phát triển của lối kiến trúc trulli ở Alberobello bắt nguồn từ cuối thế kỷ 16. Những lãnh chúa của vùng đất này thuộc gia tộc Acquaviva đã hạ lệnh cho gia nô của mình xây dựng những ngôi nhà có thể nhanh chóng tháo dỡ vì họ bị triều đình trung ương đánh thuế theo số nóc nhà mà mình ăn lộc. Nhưng có lẽ câu chuyện mang nhiều tính truyền thuyết, vì cách chinh phục thiên nhiên, lấy đá xếp làm nhà, người Puglia chắc chắn đã khám phá ra từ trước thế kỷ 16 lâu lâu lắm. Và cho đến những thế kỷ gần đây, khi chế độ phong kiến cát cứ địa phương đã sụp đổ từ lâu, người dân Alberobello vẫn cất những ngôi nhà tròn truyền thống của mình.
